Va, pensiero - Favorite Italian Arias |
|
Verdi, Rossini, Bellini, and Other Famous Italian Composers
April 5, 2008 at 7:30pm
Meymandi Concert Hall, Raleigh
For those new to opera, this evening is a showcase of opera's greatest hits. For our veteran audience, it is a nostalgic sampling of their favorite opera experiences. "Va, pensiero", the famous chorus from Verdi's Nabucco, literally means "Fly, thoughts", an appropriate title for an inspirational evening. Francesco Maria Colombo, our La Bohème maestro, returns from Italy to narrate, conduct, and express the heart-felt meaning of his favorite arias.

Le Nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro) |

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
September 27, 28, 29, 2007 at 8:00pm
Meymandi Concert Hall, Raleigh
Fittingly, our journey through Italian Opera begins with the master, Mozart, his most famous piece, Le Nozze di Figaro, and opera's most famous overture. A collaboration with the NC Symphony, these semi-staged performances showcase the music and the voices. You saw Part I of the story with The Barber of Seville in May '06, now see Part II with the orchestra on stage, just as Mozart did in his day.

Gaetano Donizetti
January 17, 19, 2008 at 7:30pm and January 20 at 3:00pm
Fletcher Opera Theater, Raleigh
Donizetti was a key player in the development of opera, and Lucia di Lammermoor was his crowning achievement. Written 50 years after Figaro, Lucia is the epitome of the Bel Canto (Beautiful Singing) style. The true beauty and drama of this work must be experienced in an intimate setting, and OCNC breaks from tradition to deliver it in the comfortable confines of Fletcher. Seating will be limited so act quickly!
